Elevator Pitch: A dying soldier is told one last story about the end of the Golden Age of Piracy by an ancient king
Actual Premise: That's the meta. The story within that story is a tragedy, of a fractured found family desperately trying to outrun the end of their world, hoping one last score before they flee their home will give them enough to live on. This family that hopes against hope that one member will return home before they're forced to flee.
There is an empire dead set on colonizing the southern islands below their continent, and their main obstacle is the pirate alliance that has grown up in response. They are willing to engage in bloody warfare to ensure their hold is strangle-tight.
