Hi there, I'm a queer artist who's finally making xir own website. I enjoy writing, drawing, and being outdoors.
I’ve always been fascinated by nature, and how it works around and alongside humanity. As a child, I grew up half an hour from Shenandoah National Park, in the foothills of Appalachia. We had woods on our property, and I spent most of my time growing up playing there, in the stream bed and amongst the trees. This love of the natural world carried me through college, and informs my art. Its interplay with humans, of how we can both help and harm like any other animal, features heavily in my work.
Just as I am driven by a love of nature, so too am I driven by a need to understand, accept, and protect it. I am fascinated by sustainable farming techniques, by the use of native plants to replace turf grasses and non-native ornamentals, and by the intricate lives our pollinators and other invertebrates live. I am driven to protect this world, and to do that I create art that features this world. The role I play in this is that of a painter and photographer. I use paint to create representations of the physical landscape, entwining those renditions with occult imagery such as hooded figures and strange creatures. My photography is more representative of reality, where I shoot landscapes and close up photos of the natural world, such as trees and flowers.
I believe art is as vital to humanity as nature is. They are informing each other, adapting and learning from each other, and in doing so, becoming an intertwined part of the human experience that is impossible to untangle.
